STANTEC TRIATHLON TRAINING

Woody's Triathlon, along with our amazing sponsor, Stantec, are so pleased to again provide pre-race swim, bike and run triathlon training for kids and junior athlete's ages 5 to 19 years of age.   Please see the full training schedule below.  Also note that athletes should participate in training sessions based on their age as of Dec. 31, 2018 (ie - your child may be seven now, but if he/she turns eight by the end of the year, then he/she will race as an eight-year-old).  All sessions take place at the Michener Aquatic Center.   Make sure you read the "Training Info and FAQS" section for all details!

All athletes participating in the training sessions must be registered in the 2018 Woody's Triathlon or sign a waiver at each session.  NO EXCEPTIONS! 

Please note that our swim sessions have become so popular that we will be limiting the number of athletes in the pool for each session.  We want to make these sessions as safe and productive as possible.  Remember these sessions are first come, first served. Thank you for your understanding if we have reached our maximum capacity.

  • Age 12 to 19 group - maximum of 40 athletes

  • Age 8 to 11 group - maximum of 80 athletes

  • Age 5 to 7 group - maximum of 60 athletes

The Aquathlon on June 3 will have a simple pre-registration.  The $5 fee will be collected at the registration table.  This will be a simulated race practice, but will NOT be a timed event.  See button below to be forwarded to the Aquathlon Information page.

JUST ADDED - Adult Training Session!

This year we will be offering a FREE one-time adult training clinic on Sunday, June 3, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.  The clinic will take place at the Michener Curling rink parking lot.  We're happy to have two experienced triathlon coaches, Kevin Hesterman and Natalie Burge leading the clinic.  The focus will be on transitions and course familiarization of the Woody's bike and run courses.  We will NOT be swimming.

Agenda:

  • Introduction and strategy - transition set-up, pacing, nutrition, biking uphill, biking downhill, run pacing, etc.)

  • ​Transition practice - swim to bike (T1) and bike to run (T2)

  • Bike course familiarization - we will do one lap on the actual bike course

  • Run course familiarization - we will run the full 5k course (including the amazing hill at the end!)

Things to bring:

  • Bike, helmet (CSA approved), biking shoes, sunglasses

  • Running shoes, hat

  • Race belt for race number (optional)

  • Transition towel

  • Nutrition (gels, water bottles, etc.)

You will need to sign a waiver before participating in the clinic.  Waivers will be available upon arrival.  We will be on live roads for the biking, so we will need to use caution and we will NOT be racing. 

June 10
